Indiana : Administration

Indiana is ranked 15th among the 50 states of U.S. and was admitted to the United States union in 1816 as the 19th state. Indiana is located in the Midwestern and Great Lakes region of United States. The Governor of Indiana serves as the chief executive of the state and has the authority to manage the government as established by the Constitution of Indiana. The governor and the lieutenant governor are jointly elected for a four-year term. The governor works with the General Assembly of Indiana and the Supreme Court of Indiana to govern the state and has the authority to adjust the other branches. The lieutenant governor is the president of the Senate and is responsible for ensuring the Senate rules accordance with its constituents. The Indiana General Assembly comprises of 50-members in Senate (upper house) and 100-members in House of Representatives (lower house). The Indiana Supreme court comprises of 5-judges with a Court of Appeal composed of 15-judges. The governor selects judges of the Supreme and Appeal Court from a group of applicants referred by the special commission. The Supreme Court does not have original jurisdiction and can only hear cases that are petitioned to the court following being heard in lower courts.
