Gary is located at the southern tip of Lake Michigan and on three major Interstate. Toledo is 210 miles east, Indianapolis is 153 miles southeast, Detroit is 237 miles northeast, and St. Louis is 287 miles southwest of Gary. It is the fourh largest state of Indiana and the largest founded in the 20th century. Though Gary is now great tourist place, it was once a leading producer of steel and therefore known as the “Steel City.”  The location of Gary in the Calumet region gives visitors to explore a variety of natural attractions. To promote the tourism industry in the city water and air pollutions have also been improved immensely. It is perfect weekend getaway for family and friends.
The climate of temperature ranges from relatively warm summers to winters being relatively cold. Very low temperatures usually develop in air that flows southward to the west of Lake Superior before reaching Gary.

Average Temperatures: January, 20.1° F; July, 72.9° F; annual average, 48.9° F

Average Annual Precipitation: 34.66 inches of rain, 39.2 inches of snowfall

Population: 98,715 (as on July 2005)
