Fort Wayne is located in northeastern Indiana at the junction of St. Mary's, St. Joseph, and Maumee rivers. Its strategic location has made it an important marketplace. Fort Wayne was the first fur-trading post and now the headquarters of major corporations. Fort Wayne is the resting place of John Chapman, known also as Johnny Appleseed. It has been honored three times as an All-American City. It is Indiana's second-largest city and the seat of Allen County. Fort Wayne has daily high and low temperature differences averaging about twenty degrees. Snow covers the ground for about thirty days each winter, but heavy snowstorms are infrequent.
